My name is Patrick Barrett. I call myself a systems engineer, but that's probably not the whole story. In reality I do a little bit of everything in my work and in my free time. I work for Exosite in Minneapolis where I work on everything from writing technical marketing materials and maintaining documentation to writing embedded device demo code and portable protocol implementations for the Internet of Things.
My life not at work actually looks mostly the same. I like to play with various programming languages. Recently it has most notibly been Rust in which I've written a simple static site generator, a CoAP 'web' framework, along with a few other things.
I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelors of Electrical Engineering in 2014. That means that I also have a personal interest in designing and building low-level electronics projects and learning more about real world wireless communication protocols, but I haven't done much noteworthy with those since leaving school unfortunately.
